We have been busy little bees behind the scenes lately…. and we are so excited to finally share some of the fresh new faces joining the Funky Junk family! As your favorite local online auction house, we know that half the fun of bidding is the personality and the thrill of the hunt. Whether you are searching for that perfect piece of vintage jewelry, a rare comic book, or just some awesome household goods, we want our community to look as good as their collections do.
That is why we have been working on some brand-new mascot designs specifically for our upcoming t-shirt line. These quirky, watercolor-style characters represent the different kinds of "bidding spirits" we see every day in our auctions. We’ve got everything from fluffy felines to rusty robots…. and we think you’re going to find a mascot that speaks to your inner collector!
1. The Collector Cat: "If I fits, I bids."
First up is a character we know all too well…. the Collector Cat! This guy is a very fluffy, Maine Coon-style orange tabby who has a bit of a smug attitude. You know that feeling when you find the perfect vintage box and you just have to have it? Well, this cat takes it literally. He’s sitting right inside a cardboard box surrounded by his latest wins: old keys, pocket watches, and little glass bottles.
We love this design because it captures that "finders keepers" energy. If you’ve ever stayed up late at our online auction house just to make sure you won that one specific item, then this is the t-shirt for you. He’s smug, he’s cozy, and he’s definitely not moving from his box!
2. Retro Robot Hoarder: "Unit 404 : Collect not found."
Next, we have a little something for our tech and toy lovers. Meet the Retro Robot Hoarder! This guy is a bit rusty and definitely vintage, but he has the biggest heart for "small treasures." He’s currently clutching a porcelain doll, a classic comic book, and even a vintage salt shaker in his metallic arms.
We wanted a mascot that represented our diverse inventory of toys and antiques. This robot doesn't care if things don't "match": he just loves everything he finds! His tagline, "Unit 404 : Collect not found," is a little nod to that moment when you’re searching for that one elusive item…. but don't worry, we usually have it waiting for you in our next sale!
3. Gnome Inspector: "Serious about small treasures."
Do you ever find yourself zooming in on every single photo of an auction listing? Then the Gnome Inspector is your spirit animal (or spirit gnome!). He’s got his tall red hat on tight and his magnifying glass out, inspecting a tiny, ornate metal thimble like it’s the Crown Jewels.
At our online auction house, we pride ourselves on those unique household goods and tiny oddities that make a house a home. This gnome knows that sometimes the smallest things are the most valuable! He is dedicated to the details, just like our most savvy bidders who can spot a maker's mark from a mile away.
4. Squirrel of Treasures: "For the nut collection."
We all know a squirrel…. or maybe we are the squirrel. This little guy wears tiny wire-rimmed spectacles and spends his days hoarding more than just acorns. He’s got a branch full of vintage keys, colorful buttons, and old metal bottle caps.
He represents that "stockpiling" phase of collecting where you just can't stop because everything is just too cool to leave behind! Whether it's art glass, fine china, or just interesting bits and bobs, the Squirrel of Treasures is here to remind you that a full collection is a happy collection.
5. Vintage Camera with Legs: "Always shooting vintage."
This one is for the artists and the photographers in the crowd! We’ve turned a retro Polaroid-style camera into a strutting mascot with its own little legs and arms. It’s walking along with colorful film strips trailing behind like a superhero cape.
We see so many AMAZING vintage cameras come through our doors, and they always have so much character. This mascot is all about capturing the moment: and the history: of every item we sell. It’s fun, it’s quirky, and it’s always looking for the next "picture-perfect" find in our online listings.
6. The Crow King: "One person's trash really is another person's treasure."
You can't have "Funky Junk" without acknowledging the beauty in the discarded! The Crow King is a majestic black bird wearing a slightly crooked golden crown, perched proudly atop a weathered green dumpster. He knows that just because something was tossed out or forgotten, doesn't mean it isn't ROYALTY.
This is the ultimate motto for any bargain hunter or reseller. We love finding the hidden gems in estate cleanouts and helping them find new homes. This crow is the king of the "find," and he’s not ashamed to show it! He’s a reminder that beauty is truly in the eye of the beholder…. or the bidder!
7. The Bargain Badger: "Flaws build character."
Why Our Online Auction House Loves These Quirky Characters
Last but certainly not least, we have the Bargain Badger. This wise old guy wears reading glasses and carries a measuring tape everywhere he goes. He is currently inspecting a vintage, slightly chipped floral porcelain teacup with extreme care.
His tagline "Flaws build character" is something we truly believe in here. Sometimes a little bit of wear and tear just proves that an item has a story to tell! He represents the practical, logical side of bidding: measuring the space in your cabinet before you hit that "bid" button (we know, it’s hard to resist!).
We had so much fun coming up with these characters with Judy, and we can't wait to see them out in the wild on some cool new shirts! Our community is so eclectic and awesome, and we wanted mascots that felt just as special as the treasures you find in our weekly sales. From jewelry and comics to art glass and fine china…. we have something for everyone, and now we have a mascot for everyone too!
