Hey there neighbors! Spring is finally trying to peek through…. honest! We've been spending a lot of time watching some absolutely incredible online auctions lately and we just had to share this one with you. If you thought collecting was just for the small stuff, you've got to see this masterpiece that just broke records and left the art world buzzing!
We are talking about an AWESOME MAMLUK FOOTED BOWL from the 14th century that just sold for a staggering $7.5 MILLION! This gorgeous piece of history, likely from Syria, is covered in the most delicate gilding and colorful enamels you've ever seen…. simply stunning. It was recently deaccessioned from the Toledo Museum of Art to help fund new pieces, and collectors went absolutely wild for it, proving that some "junk" is truly worth its weight in gold!
Finding treasures like this is what makes the world of auctions so special, even if most of us aren't bidding millions! It just goes to show that art glass: from ancient wonders to mid-century modern beauties: always has a story to tell and a value that can surprise even the experts. It’s all about the thrill of the hunt and finding that one piece that speaks to you…. you never know what's going to be the next big thing!
We might not have any $7 million bowls in the warehouse today, but we’ve always got plenty of fun stuff and treats waiting for you to discover in our past and future listings…. come check out our latest glass goodies like pink depression glass, hand-blown vases, vintage apothecary jars, crystal candy dishes, art deco plates, colorful sun-catchers, and so much more!
