Wow…. did you see the news about that absolutely stunning window?! We are just floored by the record-breaking $12.4 million price tag for the Tiffany Studios Danner Memorial Window that sold recently. It’s such a special piece of history…. and it really highlights why the world of antique auctions is so exciting for collectors and hobbyists alike. You just never know when a true masterpiece is going to step into the spotlight and blow everyone’s socks off!
This massive 16-foot beauty was designed by the awesome Agnes Northrop way back in 1913…. and it features some of the most incredible detail we’ve ever seen. We’re talking fruit-laden trees, a winding river, and bright red poppies that look like they’re glowing right in front of you. The sunset sky in the background has that classic, warm Tiffany feel that makes these pieces so iconic…. and there’s even a special inscription from the book of Matthew at the bottom to wrap it all together.
The story behind it is just as great…. as it was originally commissioned for a church in Canton, Ohio to honor a local couple for their 50 years of service. It stayed in that church for nearly 80 years before moving through some very prestigious collections…. and it eventually made its way to the big stage at Sotheby’s, where it sat right alongside famous paintings by Monet and Picasso. It’s just so cool to see glass art getting the same love as high-end fine art!
